  APPLICATIONS

Bokam’s various product lines were specifically developed for applications where the robustness, survivability, and performance are critical. The unique no moving sensing element design, present even in the joysticks with a moving grip, make this product line ideal for use in applications such as:

Mining equipment in-cockpit and external controls
Diver equipment, input devices and cursor control systems
Farming and heavy industrial controls Military field systems requiring either cursor or motion control inputs Paving equipment and public works heavy equipment controls and inputs In- cockpit controls for avionics
Precision controls for medical equipment (X-Ray and MRI machines)Precision motion control in heavily polluted, aggressive and corrosive environments
Strain gage development process is highly repeatable and lends itself to high degree of automation
Single and Multi – Axis force measurement in OEM systems
Precision Bearing Thrust Measurement Systems Differential and gage pressure sensors and diaphragms
Custom instrumentation and measurement systems

  MODULAR DESIGN

All Bokam's input devices are constructed in a modular way with standard components, sensing elements, electronics and peripherals. With this approach the customer can customize a stick based on the application without the need for new design substantial expenditure. The resulting application specific input devices can be created quickly and with minimal Non Recurring Engineering. The chart shown allows you to create a customized input device from a standard list of features and components.   TECHNOLOGY BACKGROUND AND GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Bokam's input devices combine the embedded strain measurement technology developed for reliable multi-axis force measurement product lines with unique mechanical designs that translate input lever motion into input force that is measured by the network of strain elements. This unique technology and proprietary method of strain element deposition creates a permanent molecular bond-line between the base element and the strain-sensitive materials.

The embedded strain sensitive materials are arranged in a Wheatstone Bridge network of stress and strain regions for each axis of measurement. (This network takes the input force generated by the application of force and measures the X and Y component vector of the applied force reporting it as a change in output voltage.) Each axis is reported and measured independently creating a device with no cross-talk between the axes.

  EMBEDDED STRAIN GAGE ADVANTAGES

The technology on which the Bokam's input devices are based has significant advantages over conventional strain gage technology used in standard force proportional input devices:

Five times output of typical strain gage devices yielding higher resolution
Increased reliability due to molecular bond formed between strain gage and substraight through the proprietary process
Molecular bond process provides superior temperature and drift performance characteristics
Due to embedding process, strain gage sensors can be very small
Strain gage development process is highly repeatable and lends itself to high degree of automation

ADVANTAGES OVER OTHER TECHNOLOGY BASED JOYSTICKS

Bokam's force proportional input device product line offers both grip movement and user feedback of a conventional joystick with the precision of a force proportional device with the following advantages:

All Stainless Steel construction
No moving or rubbing parts
Excellent in harsh environments even with no protective boot or cover
Very robust mechanical design
Tested over 10,000,000 cycles with no sensor degradation
Meets SME EMI/RFI requirements
Stiff stick performance with feel of mechanical joystick
Very smooth, even operation. No jumping or clicking.
